Modernising India’s Defence Manufacturing: Why Waiting is not a strategy execution is!

9 May 2025

India’s defence manufacturing stands at a pivotal juncture. With the government outlining clear strategic milestones self-reliance by 2032, global exporter status by 2038, and leadership in niche technologies by 2045 the time for action is now.

Our production capacity must double.
Our precision must rival the best in the world. And we must do all this not with more resources but with smarter, more scalable systems. Modernisation is no longer optional it is the backbone of India’s defence preparedness and global ambitions.

Significant investments in defence tech and infrastructure are underway. But to realise their full potential, we must make the right interventions today. That includes building advanced skillsets, embedding next-generation quality systems, and enabling long-term strategic vision at the plant level.

Short Term (2025–2032)
Drive self-reliance through indigenous R&D, reduce import dependency, and upgrade production systems.
Medium Term (2032–2038)
Position India among the top five global defence exporters by strengthening global partnerships and promoting Indian products worldwide.
Long Term (2038–2045)
Lead the world in select critical technologies through deep industry-academia-government collaboration and sustained R&D.

Precision, scale, and speed must become the DNA of Indian defence manufacturing. Waiting is not a strategy execution is.
